Independent, on the ground evaluation of collector motorcycles. Correctness, originality, proper build, matching numbers, and a careful screen for VIN restamps or quietly swapped components.
Correctness and originality.
Every marque and model has a fingerprint. Correct paint codes, correct fasteners, correct carbs, correct date-stamped components. An evaluation walks the bike against the factory specification and flags anything that strays, whether it's a period-correct upgrade, a sympathetic restoration choice, or a quiet substitution that affects value.
Matching numbers, verified.
Frame and engine numbers are read, photographed, and cross referenced against factory records and known production sequences. Where applicable, casting marks, date codes, and parts numbers are checked against the era. The goal is a clear, documented chain of evidence, not a verbal assurance.
Restamp and tampering screen.
Restamped frames, refinished cases, and reworked VIN tags are the quiet killers of value. Every evaluation includes a close look at stamp depth, font, spacing, and surrounding metal, along with a check for filler, weld, or refinish work in the wrong places. If something looks off, you'll see it documented with photos.
Proper build and condition report.
Beyond the numbers, the bike is assessed as a whole. Build quality, mechanical condition, cosmetic state, and the honesty of any restoration work are all captured in a written report with detailed photography. The report is yours to keep, share with your insurer, or hand to the next caretaker.
When to commission one.
Pre-purchase, before a wire goes out. Pre-sale, to support a listing with credible documentation. Pre-auction, to know what the bike actually is before the hammer drops. Or simply to establish a baseline on a machine already in your collection.
